We are delighted to welcome Sarah Mitchell to the Board of the Kennedy Memorial Trust. Sarah has been appointed by the Prime Minister as an Independent Trustee.
Sarah is Chief Executive of Cycling UK, the 148-year-old national cycling charity, where she has led a programme of modernisation and growth. Before that, she ran Heart of the City, a corporate social responsibility non-profit led by business leaders, the Governor of the Bank of England and the City Corporation.
Sarah began her career in the European institutions in Brussels. She qualified as a financial auditor, and has worked across the UK charity sector and as a policy adviser in the UK civil service. She was also Vice-Chair of the Nationwide Foundation, the grant-making trust of the Nationwide Building Society.
She is the author of Charity Management: Leadership Evolution and Change and lectures on the non-profit sector at Bayes Business School in the City of London. Sarah has a degree in English from Oxford University.
On joining the Board, Sarah said:
“The opportunity to study in the US is life-changing for Kennedy Scholars. It’s also incredibly valuable to all of us, because these outstanding students have a strong personal commitment to public service, which shapes their careers and our society.
I am excited about joining the Board to support many more outstanding students to gain the benefits of this incredible experience. I hope that my own knowledge of the non-profit sector can ensure that the Trust runs as effectively as possible, so we can focus our resources on Scholars and the scholarships of the future.”
